Our Approach
A True Story
One of my biggest life events was to plan, prepare, and compete in an IronMan competition:
2.4 Mile SWIM
112 Mile BIKE
26.2 Mile RUN
I had completed several triathlons and marathons before but never had I attempted a 140.6 mile ultra endurance event.
Our Story
The Plan
Prepare for the Last Mile. A triathlon race consists of 3 disciplines: The Swim, The Bike, and The Run. Each discipline has its own unique challenges and demands.
The Swim... Technique and Rhythm.
The Bike... A Mechanical Advantage.
The Run... One Step in Front of the Other.
Train for each discipline to perfect skills and build endurance.
"Train for the Mission"
The Preparation
Mind, Body, and Spirit.
The Mind: The most important preparation. One must stay focused and on target to build the machine that will overcome all obstacles. Master your Mindset and you will Master your Body. A proven truth is "Mind over Matter".
The Body: The bank account that one must invest time and hard work to build a reserve for the ultimate challenges ahead.
The Spirit: Swim, Bike, Run, for a greater cause than oneself. I am a Believer of the TRUTH. The ONE TRUTH of mankind. Open your heart and Live the Word.
I was able to find my Zone. I was able to detach from the physical demands of the race. I concentrated on rhythmic breathing as the fuel for my body engine. And, mentally projected my running steps ahead of my body. This approach helps to detached my physical body demands and puts me into the zone. Like running on top of lite candlesticks.
Time in the water, time in the saddle, time on the pavement has to be evolved in stages. To build endurance requires hard work and investment into your body bank, like making deposits into a savings account each workout is an investment towards the Mission.
Training for each discipline independently is fine to achieve perfection but will shape your mind and body in isolation. Transition training is essential to condition your body to use different muscle groups. Your body must learn to transition blood flow to different muscle groups.
I AM A BELIEVER.
"Believe in the Mission"
The Event
The day of reckoning. Now the race day has arrived there is little for you to do physically except hydration and nutrition preparation. Your mental preparation started weeks before. You must be on top of your game and ready to overcome any and all obstacles.
Race Day Maxim:
"Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome”
Pull the trigger and go with the flow, Focus on each stroke, each floating marker, each transition phase, be in the moment, and not the whole.
The LAST Mile
Victor Maxim:
"Nothing is Impossible, the word itself says 'IM Possible'"
Now it is all about the Will to Finish the task at hand. "Where there is a Will, There is a Way"
The Way has been Earned and is Behind you.
Now Listen to your Convictions. I can Do This!
Your Persistence and Fortitude will Drive you to cross the Finish Line.
